Youth Counsellor - YHS

Join our Youth Health Service - Evenings Only Counselling team. 

We have immediate availability for qualified and experienced Counsellors (contracted) and Associate Counsellors (self-employed on 12 month contract). Vacancies are in the Youth Health Service – Evenings Only 6pm – 9:30pm. 

The Youth Health Service is a unique service in Glasgow for young people aged 12 - 18, it offers multiple supports within each venue, with onsite Nurse, GP, Counsellor, Multiple Risk Worker, Employability Advisor, Youth Workers and support team. Counselling with the YHS comes with a wide range of onsite supports each evening as well as a wraparound service from the nursing team to support the young people and their families throughout the week.
Come and join us and get the early intervention supports to young people who need access to this vital service now.

Priority will be given to applicants who have experience and post qualifying training in working with young people and children – in a secondary school environment or with other youth background experience.

Roles are for 1 to 4 evenings per week (3.5 hours – 16 hours per week)

Counsellor Grade 4/5 (£24,750 - £29,500 pro rata) (salary placement dependant on qualifications, experience and accreditation status)

All successful Youth Counsellors will have access to undertake our SQA Professional Development Award in Counselling for Children and Young People SCQF Level 11 free as part of our ongoing commitment to training and development.

You must have:

  • A recognised Diploma in Counselling
  • A valid driving licence and access to own vehicle or be able to travel to the YHS venues across Glasgow
  • Excellent IT skills and be comfortable with use of mobile technology

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience of delivering time limited, solution focused approaches
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a range of client types and presenting issues
  • Experience of recording comprehensive client progress and improvement data
  • Experience of counselling young people in a school environment is highly advantageous
